Armenia and Buga, Cities of the Cauca River Basin, Interested in the SWITCH Project Strategies.

The “Integrated Management of Water Resources: An Opportunity for Teamwork in Search for Sustainable Solutions” workshop was held with the sponsorship of water and sanitation sector institutions in the cities of Armenia and Buga. The objective of the workshop was to identify synergies among regional institutions in the development of projects related to integrated management of water resources in a way being coherent with the philosophy of the SWITCH and GIRH Projects. This event turned out into the first step towards the formation of the Learning Alliance for the Integrated Management of Water Resources and the construction of a regional vision for the Cauca River basin in 2030.

There were 46 participants in the workshop held in the city of Armenia. These participants represented 17 institutions. In Buga, the workshop had the participation of 30 attendees, representing 6 institutions.

As a result of their work, participants were able to identify the greatest obstacles in the efficient management of water resources in their city, as well as the main issues in which they can develop inter-institutional work proposals (see more…).

Visit to the Southern Drainage System

In order to analyze the progress of the Learning Alliance in the Southern Drainage System and agree on the Work Plan for the period between August 2008 and January 2009, a meeting was held on July 31, 2008. This included a visit to the Southern Sewage site.

Meeting of the Alliance of the Cauca River Water Quality and its Impact on the Water Supply System of Cali.

On August 2, 2008, a meeting was held in EMCALI – Pto. Mallarino Plant’s auditorium, with the objective of analyzing the progress status of the Alliance of the Cauca River’s Water Quality and its Impact on Cali’s water supply system, and to agree on the Work Plan for the period between August, 2008 and January, 2009.

Visit to the Expansion Zone in the Southern Part of Cali

With the purpose of strengthening relations with the participants in the Learning Alliance of the Expansion Zone in the Southern Part of Cali in the search for innovative strategies, better knowledge of the study zone on site, presenting the Alliance’s progress status and agree on the Work Plan to be held during the period of August, 2008 – January 2009, a meeting was held on August 14, 2008, as well as a field visit to the Cali-Jamundí corridor and Navarro’s delayed schedule project. After, a discussion session was held at Instituto Cinara’s Universidad del Valle Blue Conference Room.
